Finding time for yourself and all the things you want to do isn’t always easy. Most of our day is spoken for before we even get up. If we allow it, “life” will simply take over. Take control of your time and carve out a few hours for yourself here and there using the “real-world” tips below.

DO IT TIP #1
Put Yourself on the Schedule FIRST

Time is kinda like money. No matter what we do, we always run out at the end of the day, the week, or the month. That’s why it’s important to schedule some “me-time” first. Trust me, you’ll be able to fit everything else you need to get done around it.

DO IT TIP #2
Stop Procrastinating

When we don’t want to do something, it can take us forever (dragging feet syndrome. It’s real. I made it up.) We spend all weekend procrastinating on the yard work we should be doing. Grab a timer (your phone has one. No excuses), decide how long it should take you for the task, and get to work. Get through it as fast as you can. Try to beat the time. Then enjoy the rest of your weekend and do everything you wanted to do but didn’t think you had time for.

FACESLAP POINT

Drag your feet long enough, and you won’t be able to do anything anymore.

DO IT TIP #3
Cut Out Distractions

Another important strategy to use your time wisely is to cut out distractions. Close the door to your office. Shut your phone off. Cut out as many distractions as you can and get to work quickly and efficiently. Having a reminder of what you’ll do for fun when you get done will help keep you motivated.

DO IT TIP #4
Delete or Delegate

The best way to save time is to cut things out completely. You can do that in one of two ways. You can cut it out, or you can get someone else to do it for you. As you look at your calendar and to-do list, ask yourself if you really have to take care of this personally. Does it have to get done at all? Delete things that don’t really need to be done from the list. Then go through what is left, line by line, and decide if someone else can do it for you. Delegate or possibly think about automating tasks. You’ll gain the time rewards of not doing it all on your own.

FACESLAP POINT

Deciding what not to do is as important as deciding what to do.
